Four Lady Indians sign to the next level

FULTON, Miss. – Four members of the Itawamba Community College women's basketball team will continue their career at the next level with the trio of Shaniyah Buford, Taneshia Miller and Kaylyn Wilson signing with Delta State University, and Zaria Jenkins with Stillman College.

The foursome led the Lady Indians to a 21-5 record, the MACJC North Division Championship and to the semifinal games of the MACJC Tournament and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Tournament.

Buford, who was an NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American, averaged 18 points per game while shooting 47.6 percent from the floor in 25 games last season. The guard from Abbeville was also named to the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament team after averaging 15 points a game during the tournament.

Miller averaged both 9.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game in 26 games, and the 6'1 center from Greenville picked up eight double-doubles for points and rebounds. She led the team with a 60.7 field goal percentage, had an eight-game stretch with 10 or more rebounds and was named MACJC Player of the Week once during her sophomore campaign.

Wilson started all 26 games for the Lady Indians, averaged 7.3 points per game and shot 64.3 percent from the free throw line. The guard from Columbus picked up 60 assists as well as had four rebounds per game.

The trio were named MACJC All-Stars, while Buford and Miller earned MACJC All-State honors. They will join the Lady Statesmen who finished 18-10 last season.

Jenkins played in all 26 games during her sophomore season, averaged 8.9 points per game and shot 54.3 percent from the floor. The guard/forward from Columbus grabbed 131 rebounds last season and shot 79.4 percent from the charity stripe. She will join the Tigers, a member of theSouthern States Athletic Conference, who finished last season 16-14 and advanced to the conference semifinals.
