Lady Indians fight off Mississippi Delta, 78-66

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The Lady Indians fought off a scrappy bunch of Lady Trojans to pick up a 78-66 win at Mississippi Delta on Monday.

After fighting for a 36-32 halftime lead, the Lady Indians outscored Mississippi Delta 26-16 in the third quarter to take a 62-48 lead into the fourth quarter. The Lady Trojans fought back and made it an eight point game late in the contest, but the Lady Indians took care of business and put the game on ice with a pair of free throws with less than a minute left in the game.

With the game no longer in doubt, Mississippi Delta continued to press and as the shot clock expired just before the game clock the Lady Indians made an uncontested lay-up to push the final margin of victory to 12 points.

Shaniyah Buford (Abbeville) scored a game-high 23 points with Shimia Williams (Booneville) coming off the bench to add 10 points and 12 rebounds in the win.

Coach Robin Porter filled in for Coach Nanci Gray, who missed the game due to being sick.
