Lady Indians roll over Pearl River in MACJC quarterfinals

ELLISVILLE, Miss. – Zaria Jenkins (Columbus) scored a career-high and game-high 20 points in the Lady Indians' 81-63 win over Pearl River in the quarterfinals of the MACJC Women's Basketball Tournament at Jones College on Monday.

After taking a 37-34 lead at halftime, the Lady Indians (20-3) scored 33 points in the third quarter while holding Pearl River (16-8) to 14 points in the quarter to take a commanding 70-48 lead into the final frame.

The Lady Indians built a 24-point lead with 2:43 left in the game before coasting to the 18-point win to advance to Wednesday's semifinals and punch their ticket to next week's NJCAA Region 23 Tournament at Mississippi College.

Shaniyah Buford (Abbeville) scored 19, Taneshia Miller (Greenville) added 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Kaylyn Wilson (Columbus) added 11 points in the win. Tabreea Gandy (Starkville) had an impressive night scoring eight point while adding eight steals, seven rebounds, seven assists, and blocking a shot.

The Lady Indians will face Co-Lin Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. after the Lady Wolves picked up a 65-45 win over East Mississippi.

In other tournament action, No. 13 Jones defeated Mississippi Delta 88-53 and Gulf Coast knocked off Northeast 64-45 in the final game of the final game of the day.
