Buford named MACJC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week

FULTON, Miss. – For the second time this season, Itawamba Community College sophomore guard Shaniyah Buford has been named Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

The Abbeville native helped the Lady Indians (18-3, 10-1 MACJC North) go 2-0 and earn the MACJC North Division Championship last week.

In wins over Mississippi Delta and Coahoma, Buford scored combined for 43-points while shooting 55 percent overall and added four assists, three steals and three rebounds.

Buford scored 23-points in the 78-66 road win over Mississippi Delta while shooting 10-17 from the floor, 2-6 from three point range and 1-1 from the charity stripe. 

In the 65-39 win over Coahoma, Buford scored 20-points while making six of her nine shots, including four three pointers. She added four free throws out of five attempts.

The weekly honor is the third of the season for the Lady Indians, who wrap up the regular season Thursday night against Holmes in Fulton at 5:30 p.m.
