Lady Indians roll Northwest in North Division opener

SENATOBIA, Miss. – In the MACJC North Division opener, the Lady Indians thumped Northwest 83-59.

The Lady Indians (5-2, 1-0) controlled the game from the start and pulled away when Shaniyah Buford(Abbeville) caught fire hitting four consecutive three-pointers. Midway through the second quarter Whitney Watkins (Decatur, Ala.) hit a three to put the Lady Indians up by 24 points, 46-22. 

At halftime the Lady Indians led 53-29, with Buford scoring 18-points and Zaria Jenkins(Columbus) and Tabreea Gandy(Starkville) putting up nine points each.

The Lady Indians rolled in the second half extending their lead to 71-48 after three frames and closed out the fourth quarter to pick up the 83-59 division win.

Buford led the Lady Indians with 24 points, her fifth 20 plus point game of the year. Jenkins and Gandy scored 11 points each and Kealy Wilson(Olive Branch) scored 10 points off the bench.

The Lady Indians are done with division play for the first half of the season and will travel to Boaz, Ala. Thursday to face Snead State Community College. In their first meeting on Nov. 27, the Lady Indians defeated the Lady Parson 61-50.
