Lady Indians fall to No. 5 Jones County in MACJC quarterfinals

SENATOBIA, Miss. – The Lady Indians (14-8) will have to await the fate of their season after dropping an 89-59 decision to No. 5 Jones Country Junior College in the quarterfinals of the MACJC Tournament held at Northwest Mississippi Community College on Tuesday.

The Lady Bobcats took advantage of a slow start by the Lady Indians to take a 22-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. Shaniyah Buford (Abbeville) made the Lady Indians first field goal of the game with a three pointer the 3:08 mark of the quarter.

ICC rallied to cut Jones' double-digit lead to eight midway through the second quarter but the Lady Bobcats finished the quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 43-29 halftime lead into the locker room.

Jones County outscored the Lady Indians 25-19 in the third quarter and 21-11 in the fourth to pull away for an impressive 89-59 win to advance to the semifinals of the MACJC Tournament.

Lauren Fitch (Decatur, Ala.) led ICC with a team-high 20 points. Ole Miss signee Alexis Tolefree paced the Lady Bobcats with 29 points.

The Lady Indians have been eliminated from postseason play, unless Co-Lin defeats Northwest in the quarterfinals of the tournament. ICC and Northwest will finish in a tie for the final spot in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament - the winner will be determined on a coin flip on Wednesday.
