Lady Indians finish strong to beat Lawson State, 69-64

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Another strong second half helped the Lady Indians overcome a six-point halftime deficit to pick up a 69-64 road win against Lawson State (AL) Community College on Monday.

Trailing 38-32 at halftime, the Lady Indians (2-0) rallied to take a 44-43 lead over the Lady Cougars (1-1) on a pair of free throws by Shaniyah Buford (Abbeville) with 5:18 left in the third quarter before Lawson State rallied to make it a 53-50 game by the end of the quarter.

Lauren Fitch (Decatur, AL) stole the ball and found Buford for an easy layup to give the Lady Indians their largest lead of the evening, 58-50, at 6:25 mark of the fourth. The Lady Cougars rallied once again to make it a 62-61 game in favor of ICC with 2:14 left in the quarter. Tenisha Miller (Greenville) took care of business from the free line down the stretch to help secure the five-point victory.

Fitch and Jaleigha Polk (Tupelo) finished with 14 points each to lead the Lady Indians in scoring while Buford scored 12 points off the bench.

Kiyana Bullock led the Lady Cougars with 16 points.

ICC will be on the road to face No. 3 Shelton State (AL) Community College on Thursday.
