FULTON, MS - Itawmaba Community College women's basketball program survived a poor shooting performance in the first round of the MACJC State Tournament as they defeated Southwest Mississippi Community College, 58-52. 

The Lady Indians (19-5) struggled to find their rhythm offensively as they shot 29 percent from the floor in the MACJC Quarterfinal macthup, but their defense picked up the intensity, holding a Southwest offense who averages 72 points a game to only 52.

The North Division champion Lady Indians dominated the boards out rebounding the Lady Bears (17-7) 51-36 highlighted by an 11 rebound performance by Ieysha Mays (Mound Bayou).

After trailing early in the contest, the Lady Indians took the lead on a Marlee Hatcher (Pontotoc) jump shot near with just over two minutes left in the opening frame. 

The Lady Indians extended their lead in the second quarter and led by eight, 29-21 at the break. 

Sophomore guard Erika Toney (Horn Lake) helped set the tone in the second half on her way to a 10 points, nine rebound performance, but the Lady Bears rallied to pull within four, 45-41, with just over six minutes left in the contest. However, they would never get any closer as the Lady Indians held on to pick up the 58-52 win and advance to the semi-finals.

Jabria Pounds (Nettleton), Treasure Evans (Horn Lake) and Toney led the Lady Indians with 10 points each. [Box Score]

Alissa Adam paced the Lady Bears with a game-high 23 points.

The Lady Indians, who are the No. 1 seed out of the North, will face Jones County Junior College, Wednesday night at ICC's Davis Event Center. Tipoff is set for 6:00 pm.

Co-Lin 75, Northwest 68 [Box Score]

The No. 3 seeded Co-Lin Lady Wolves (21-3) had four players score in double figures to knock off the No. 2 seeded Northwest Lady Rangers (16-5) 75-68 in the opening game of the day.

Kelley Allen paced the Lady Wolves with 18 while Jamilah Sanders and Alexis Collins each added 15 and Tytiana Hall tossed in 10 in the victory.

Averyale Joy led the Lady Rangers with 17 and Sara Lytle added 15 in the loss.

East Central 72, East Mississippi 68 [Box Score]

The East Central Lady Warriors, the top seed out of the South, avoided the upset bug that wreaked havoc on the Men's Quarterfinals with a 72-68 win over No. 4 seeded East Mississippi Lady Lions.

Samantha Duncan poured in a game-high 25 points for the Lady Warriors (22-2) with Alexia McDonald adding 15, Kalybriah Haskin 13, and Miracle Rushing 12.

Quantesha Patterson led the Lady Lions (13-9) with 24 and Ki-Ki Patterson tossing in 22 points in the loss.

Jones County 69, Holmes 58 [Box Score]

The No. 2 seeded Jones County Lady Bobcats (19-5) closed out the night with a 69-58 victory over the No. 3 seeded Holmes Lady Bulldogs (17-7).

Wendion Bibbins had an impressive night scoring 14 points and collecting 16 rebounds for the

Lady Bobcats. Tatyana Lofton paced JCJC with 23 points while Ashailee Brailey added 15 in the victory.

Tiffany Jones scored 15 while Aja Williams and Minyone Hill each added 11 points in the loss.
