FULTON, MS - It was a slow start for both Itawamba Community College and Holmes Community College in Thursday night MACJC North showdown, but the Lady Indians held on to pick up a 62-55 win after grabbing the lead early in the second half.

Freshman guard Jabria Pounds (Nettleton) hit a three-pointer to open the second half after the Lady Indians (15-5, 7-2 MACJC North) trailed 26-24 at the break.

A couple of technical fouls called against the Lady Bulldogs (14-6, 5-4 MACJC North) helped the Lady Indians extend their lead in the fourth quarter, but that lead was cut down to three, 46-43 with just over five minutes left in the contest.

The Lady Indians were able to keep the Lady Bulldogs at bay in the closing minutes to pick up the 62-55 division win as they continue their quest for back-to-back division titles.

Pounds led the Lady Indains with 17 points, followed by Marlee Hatcher (Pontotoc) with 14 points and Erika Toney (Horn Lake) with 10 points.

Contrice Golden paced the Lady Bulldogs with 11 points.

On Monday, the Lady Indians will hit the road to face rival and North Division foe Northeast Mississippi Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm in Booneville.
