Fulton, MS – Julianna Garner of New Albany has been selected to represent Itawamba Community College at the 29th Annual Higher Education Appreciation Day - Working for Academic Excellence, Feb. 2, 2016, in Jackson.

The appreciation day is the Mississippi Legislature's way of saying "thank you" to outstanding faculty members and students from each participating member institution of the Mississippi Association of Colleges and Universities.

Garner is a sophomore at Itawamba Community College, where she is majoring in English education/coaching. Her activities and honors include women's basketball, Modern Language Club, Political Science Club, Phi Theta Kappa (vice president of leadership), Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Writing Center consultant, president's list, Who's Who Among Students in American Community and Junior Colleges, Region 23 Women's Basketball Team Community Service - CREATE Foundation and MORA Donate Life Ambassador. Her additional activities are Union County Little League coach and West Union volunteer softball assistant coach.

She is a 2014 graduate of West Union High School, where her activities and honors were basketball; both fast- and slow-pitch softball; Beta Club (president); class president; Future Business Leaders of America; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; CREATE board member; valedictorian; Hall of Fame; Miss West Union; overall subject area award winner for English, math, history and science; two-time division slow pitch player of the year; and fast-pitch player of the year.

Garner is the daughter of Lorie Garner and Roger Garner.
