No. 17 Shelton State hands ICC Lady Indians first loss

TUSCALOOSA, AL – The Itawamba Community College Lady Indians fell behind early to the nationally ranked Shelton State Lady Bucs and were unable to overcome a first half deficit to drop their first game of the season, 91-61.

In the first half, the Lady Indians (5-1) trailed by as much as 27 and shot 31 percent from the floor. Shelton State, who were fresh off its win over No. 1 Chipola Community College on Saturday, were hot from the tip off and shot 52.6 percent to hold a 50-34 lead at halftime. 

The Lady Indians picked up their offensive performance in the second half, and fought to stay in the game but the red hot Lady Bucs (6-0) remained consistent to never trail in the contest and to hand the Lady Indians their first loss of the season. 

Asia Partlow (Tupelo) led the Lady Indians with 10 points, while Meredith Lovely paced the Lady Bucs with 21 points.

The Lady Indians look to bounce back from their first defeat on Thursday when they wrap up their four game road trip against Meridian Community College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
