Lady Indians defeat Volunteer State to remain unbeaten

FULTON, MS – The Itawamba Community College women's program struggled to find their rhythm early but overcame a poor shoot performance to defeat Volunteer State Community College 55-46.

The Lady Indians (3-0) shot an uncharacteristic 26 percent (20-77) from the floor, but sophomore Treasure Evans (Horn Lake) scored a game high 15 points to help the Lady Indians remain unbeaten. 

Evans put up 10 points in the first half and she gave the Lady Indians their first lead of the game on a layup with 3:54 left in the first half, they were unable to hold on and trailed 26-25 at the break. 

Sophomore guard Alontra Tucker (Lamar) helped the Lady Indians regain and extend the lead early in the second half. The Lady Indians led by as much has 11 points in the second half and were able to hold off the charging Lady Pioneers (1-2) to pick up the win. 

Tucker finished with 13 points and Kendrea Duke led the Lady Pioneers with 14 points.

The Lady Indians will face their first road test of the season on Thursday, November 12 when they travel to Ellisville to take on Jones County Junior College. Tipoff is set for 5:30 pm.
