FULTON, MS – Sophomore guard Jayla Chills was named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 23 Player of the Year when the region announced their annual honors on Friday.

The Ripley native is averaging 19.5 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game heading into this week's NJCAA national tournament in Salina, Kansas. She currently ranks in the nation's Top 20 in points per game.

Chills, who was also selected to the MACJC All-North first-team, is now eligible for NJCAA All-American honors.

Joining Chills on the All-Region 23 Team: Taylor Baudoin (Jones County), Claresa Banks (Co-Lin), Aspriona Gilbert (Northwest), Miaya Crowder (Meridian), Aja Williams (Holmes), Starla Daggans (Jones County), Katie Lemieux (LSU-Eunice), Niya Head (Mississippi Delta), and Shakerya Moorison (East Central).  

The Lady Indians (23-4) will face No. 18 Wabash Valley College (24-6) at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 16 in the opening round of the national tournament.
