FULTON, MS -- It wasn't the opening to season that the Lady Indians had hoped for, but head coach Nanci Gray saw some positives in a 83-60 loss to No. 7 Shelton State Community College on Monday.

"Shelton is a really good team," said Gray. "I feel like we were able to take away some positives from the loss. Our freshman were a little overwhelmed to start the game, but I felt like they grew up in a hurry and building experience for them will be crucial for us this season."

Sophomore Ty-Nita Baker (Houston) scored a game-high 16 points and grabbed 6 rebounds for the No. 13 Lady Indians.

"We did some good things on offense, but couldn't get the stops when we needed on defense," Gray said. "Playing better team defense will be one of the things we will really focus on this week in practice."

Sophomore Ashley Wiley (Jackson) added 11 points while freshman LyTia Coleman (Memphis, TN) came off the bench to chip in 10 points.

The Lady Indians (0-1, 0-0 MACJC North) will look to rebound Thursday night as they play host to East Central Community College at 5:30 p.m.
