Indians split opening day of Turf Wars Invitational, knock off No. 16 Marion Military

GARDENDALE, AL – The Indians went 1-1 on the opening day of the Turf Wars Invitational, highlighted by a victory over nationally ranked No. 16 Marion Military Institute.

Game 1: Shelton State 15, Indians 3 (5 innings)

Shelton State pulled away with a nine-run fourth inning, securing a 15-3 win over the Indians in five innings.

Laklyn Nichols, Joryie McKnight, Tayler Graham, Taylar Shands, and Maddie Porter each recorded a hit. Graham drove in two runs with a single to center in the second inning.

Ella Lilly took the loss on the mound for the Indians.

Game 2: Indians 5, No. 16 Marion Military 2

Alyssa Cliftt dominated on the mound, striking out 11 batters to lead the Indians to a 5-2 win over No. 16 Marion Military.

The Indians erupted for five runs in the fifth inning. Sadie Stegall doubled to bring home Shands and Morgan Green before Ella Duhon launched a three-run homer.

AB Marlar led the offense with two of the team's six hits. Marlar, Stegall, and Lauren Brown each added a double.
