Indians drop doubleheader at No. 5 Jones

ELLISVILLE, Miss. – The Indians dropped a pair of games at No. 5 Jones to close the regular season on Saturday.

Game 1: No. 5 Jones 5, Indians 1

The Indians collected nine hits as they fell to No. 5 Jones in game one, 5-1.

ICC got on the board first in the top of the first inning when Julia Shaw singled to score Allie Beckley, but the Bobcats went on to score five unanswered runs to take the game one win.

Shaw and Jessi Smith each collected two hits while Beckley, Riley Tyree, Tamiya Martin, Avery Wolfe and Camdyn Cooper each added one.

Shaw was the pitcher of record, giving up five runs, three earned, on five hits.

Game 2: No. 5 Jones 12, Indians 4 (5 innings)

The Indians dropped game two in five innings at No. 5 Jones in a 12-4 decision.

ICC struck in the top of the first inning when Riley Tyree singled to score Tamiya Martin. The Bobcats tied it in the bottom of the inning and took a 2-1 lead in the second.

In the top of the third, the Indians got the lead right back after Jessi Smith doubled to score Martin. A single by Tyree scored Smith to go up 3-2, but the Bobcats retook the lead after scoring three in the bottom of the inning to make it 5-3.

The Indians got a run back in the top of the fifth after Allie Beckley scored on a sacrifice fly by Smith, but the Bobcats used a seven-run bottom half of the inning to take the win in five innings.

Tyree and Smith each had two RBI in the contest; Tyree and Shaw both went two-for-three at the plate.

Alyssa Clifft was the pitcher of record for the Indians as she surrendered 12 runs on 14 hits.

The Indians will be back home on Saturday when they face rival Northeast in the opening round of the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament.
