
FULTON, Miss. – The Indians had a good day at the ICC Softball Complex after sweeping East Mississippi on Monday.
Game 1: Indians 4, East Mississippi 3
The Indians took game one in a thrilling 4-3 walk-off over East Mississippi.
ICC struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Sammie Day-Jones hit a single that drove in Allie Beckley. The Lions answered in the top of the fourth with a two-RBI double to take a 2-1 lead.
The Indians retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Day-Jones hit an RBI double that scored Tamiya Martin followed by a single by Jessi Smith that put Cooper across the plate.
East Mississippi made it a tie game once again on an RBI single in the top of the sixth.
In the bottom of the seventh, Beckley hit a ground ball and reached base on an error, allowing Cooper to score from third and give the Indians the game one win.
Day-Jones finished with two hits of the Indians' total seven hits along with a pair of RBIs.
Alyssa Clifft earned the win for ICC as she gave up three runs on four hits while striking out six batters through seven innings.
Game 2: Indians 9, East Mississippi 5
The Indians used back-to-back four-run frames to rally and take a 9-5 game two win over East Mississippi.
Down 3-0, the Indians got on the board in the bottom of the third when Chloe McClain drove in Allie Beckley on an RBI single. The Lions responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth, Julia Shaw changed things up when she hit a grand slam to tie the game at five. The Indians then took the 9-5 lead in the sixth when Jessi Smith drove in Sammie Day-Jones followed by a double from Riley Tyree that scored Smith, then Tyree scored on an error and McClain scored on a bases-loaded walk.
Shaw led the Indians as she went three-for-four with four RBIs while Beckley and Tyree each added a pair of hits.
Shaw was also the winning pitcher as she gave up five runs on nine hits while striking out six batters in seven innings of work.
The Indians will be back in action on Wednesday, April 17 when they host Delta.
