Indians split with No. 2 Pearl River

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians earned a split with No. 2 Pearl River on Sunday.

Game 1: No. 2 Pearl River 5, Indians 3 (10 innings)

 

The Indians dropped a hard-fought battle in game one against No. 2 Pearl River, 5-3, in 10 innings.

 

Both teams traded home runs in the first inning with the Wildcats striking first with a solo home run followed by Jessi Smith hitting one to even the score. 

 

It wasn't until the eight inning when the tie was broken after Pearl River used an RBI single to go up 2-1, but the Indians tied it up again when Smith hit a single to score Martin.

 

In the tenth, the Wildcats scored three runs to retake the lead. The Indians got a run back in the bottom half of the inning when Riley Tyree singled to score Camdyn Cooper.

 

Smith finished with two hits and two RBIs while Tyree added an RBI.

 

Julia Shaw was the pitcher of record as she gave up two runs on three hits while striking out two batters in 2.1 innings of work.

Game 2: Indians 3, No. 2 Pearl River 2

 

The Indians bounced back in game two with a 3-2 win over No. 2 Pearl River.

 

The Wildcats scored first with an RBI single in the top of the first, but the Indians answered in the bottom half of the inning with a double by Riley Tyree that scored Hallie Turner followed by a two-run home run by Julia Shaw to give the Indians the lead.

 

Shaw went one-for-three with two RBIs while Joyrie McKnight, Turner, Smith and Tyree each collected a hit.

 

Shaw was the winning pitcher for the Indians as she gave up two runs, one earned, on seven hits while striking out four batters in seven innings of work.

 

The Indians will be back in action on Tuesday, March 26 when they travel to Booneville to take on rival Northeast in a conference doubleheader.
