Indians split at Snead State

BOAZ, Ala. – The Indians earned the road split against Snead State on Tuesday.

 

Game 1: Indians 15, Snead State 6

 

The Indians collected 10 hits and had nine different baserunners score en route to a 15-6 game one win at Snead State.

 

The first two runs for the Indians came off an error that allowed Sammie Day-Jones and Jessi Smith to score. Snead State answered with a three-run outing in the bottom of the second inning and another run in the third to take a 4-2 lead. 

 

The momentum was then shifted back in ICC's favor when Tamiya Martin hit a two-run inside-the-park home run to tie it up in the fourth inning. The Indians reclaimed the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Julia Shaw singled to score Smith and Riley Tyree followed by a two-run home run by Emma Rose Thompson to give ICC an 8-4 lead.

 

In the sixth inning, Shaw reached base on an error that allowed Smith and Tyree to score. In the seventh, Jenna Whitfield reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Martin to score, followed by a single by Laklyn Nichols that scored Cooper, an error that scored Whitfield and Nichols, and a passed ball that allowed Smith to score.

 

Martin finished the contest with three hits while Cooper and Thompson each added two. Smith, Shaw, Thompson and Martin each had a pair of RBIs in the victory.

 

Shaw threw a complete game as she struckout six batters.

 

Game 2: Snead State 9, Indians 5

 

The Indians scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but they couldn't spark a rally as they dropped game two at Snead State, 9-5.

Down 2-0 in the third inning, the Indians tied it up after Sammie Day-Jones doubled to score Hallie Turner followed by a double from Riley Tyree that scored Day-Jones.

 

The Parsons answered with a run in the bottom of the third inning and three in the fourth. In the fifth inning, Tyree hit a sacrifice fly to score Hallie Turner. Snead State then added three runs to their lead leading up to the seventh when the Indians' rally came up short.

 

Day-Jones ended the contest with three hits while Jessi Smith, Tamiya Martin Turner and Tyree added two.

 

Turner was the pitcher of record as she struckout eight batters in six innings of work.

 

The Indians will be back in action on Friday, February 23 when they face Motlow State and Frontier in the TigerFest Tournament hosted by Northeast.
