Indians split with Snead State

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians split a non-conference doubleheader with Snead State on Thursday.

Game 1: Snead State 6, Indians 3

With only one hit in the game, the Parsons rallied to score four runs on six hits to take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the sixth inning.

Snead State (16-18) secured the win by turning a double play to end the sixth and seventh innings with the tying run on base each inning.

The Indians (12-17) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Jessi Smith doubled and scored on a single by Riley Tyree, who advanced to second on the throw home. Chloe McClain singled to bring Tyree home before the Parsons could get out of the inning.

Allie Beckley stole home in the fourth to make it a 3-0 contest before the Parson would rally for the win.

Game 2: Indians 9, Snead State 0 (5 innings)

The Indians wasted little time getting things going in the nightcap. They scored five runs on three hits and three Snead State errors in the first inning.

McClain drew a bases loaded walk to score Hallie Turner. Beckley followed with a single to score Smith. Tyree and Beckley score when Sadie Stegall and Tamiya Martin reached on back-to-back errors to make it 5-0.

The Indians went up 7-0 after Sammie Day-Jones started the second inning with a single and scored when Smith hit her fifth home run of the season.  

Avery Wolfe and Emma Rose Thompson hit back-to-back home runs to push the lead out to 9-0 in the fourth. It was Wolfe's first home run of the season and Thompson's fourth.

Julia Shaw (8-7) picked up the win after giving up no runs on two hits and two walks while striking out eight in five innings of work. She has struck out eight batters in four games for her season high.

Smith went 4-for-5 with three runs scored, two RBI, a double and a home run on the day.

The Indians will be back in action on Sunday when they host Pearl River (26-3, 8-0 MACCC) at 12 and 2 p.m. The games will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
