No. 18 Indians fall to No. 7 Jones

Fulton, Miss. – No. 18 Itawamba Community College softball suffered a pair of run-rule losses to No. 7 Jones College, dropping game one, 9-0, and game two, 9-1 Saturday.

Game 1: Bobcats 9, Indians 0 (6-innings)

The Indians (29-14, 16-10 MACCC) were held to only three hits while Jones scored nine runs on 10-hits.

Riley Tyree (Trussville, Ala.) led the Indians offensively going 2-for-2 with a double.

Allie Beckley (Pontotoc) had the Indians other hit in the game as she went 1-for-2.

Jones scored one run in the top of the first and then three in the second to take an early 4-0 lead. After scoring one run in the fifth, the Bobcats scored four in the sixth to pick up the 9-0 win.

Game 2: Bobcats 9, Indians 1 (6-innings)

Jones took an early lead in game two, scoring three runs in the top of the first and added three more in the third.

They extended their lead to 7-0 in the fourth and plated two runs in the sixth to take a 9-0 lead.

Sarah Kate Thompson (Myrtle) tripled in the bottom of the sixth and scored on a sacrifice bunt. However, the late run wasn't enough to spark a comeback and the Indians fell, 9-1.

The Indians will wrap up the regular season Tuesday when they host the nationally ranked Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
