No. 20 Indians get road sweep over Hinds

Raymond, Miss. – No. 20 Itawamba Community College softball picked up a key conference sweep Saturday when they went on the road and defeated Hinds Community College, 7-2 and 8-3.

Game 1: Indians 7, Eagles 2

Julia Shaw (Hernando) drove in the game's first run with a RBI double in the top of the third and a two-run scoring triples from Hanna Grace Gillean (Mantachie) gave the Indians (28-11, 15-7 MACCC) a 3-0 lead.

Sammie Day-Jones (Ragland, Ala.) extend the Indians lead to 5-0 in the fourth with a two run-scoring single.

The Eagles were able to plate a run in the bottom of the fourth, but Lex Brown (Morton) would get that run back for the Indians on a RBI single in the fifth.

Both teams would score one more run a piece in the contest with the Indians picked up the game one win.

Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) threw a complete game and struck out eight while allowing only three hits and two runs. She improves to 14-4 this season.

Game 2: Indians 8, Eagles 3

The Indians fell behind early and trailed 2-0 after three innings. However, the Indians scored five runs in the fourth and three in the fifth on their way to the 8-3 win.

In the five-run frame, Maggie McVey (Blue Springs), who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, Sarah Kate Thompson (Myrtle) drove in runs and Rayne Rippee (Sardis) hit a two-run scoring single. The Indians fifth run scored on an error.

McVey had a two-run double in the fifth and Bailey Ware (Batesville) bunted for a base hit to score another run.

The Eagles scored one run in the sixth, but Haylee Alberson was able to keep the Eagles runs and hits limited as she went the distance and struck out seven to pick up the win and secure the sweep.

Monday, the Indians will host No. 4 Northwest Mississippi Community College for another big conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. and will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
