No. 20 Indians take care of business at Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD, Miss. – The No. 20 Indians took care of business and grabbed a pair of conference wins over Mississippi Delta on Tuesday.

Game 1: No. 20 Indians 8, Trojans 0

Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) struck out a career-high 12 batters to help the Indians pick up an 8-0 win in the first game of the day.

The Indians (26-11, 13-7 MACCC) broke open a scoreless contest with three runs in the top of the third inning. Bailey Ware (Batesville) scored on a single by Sarah Kate Thompson (Myrtle). Allie Beckley (Pontotoc) scored on a sac fly by Sammie Day-Jones (Ragland, Ala.). Jessi Smith (Senatobia) singled to push across Thompson.

Avery Wolfe (Hernando) singled to score Hanna Grace Gillean (Mantachie) and Rayne Rippee (Sardis) followed with a RBI double to give the Indians a 5-0 advantage in the sixth.

The Indians tacked on three insurance runs in the top of the seventh when Day-Jones scored on an error and Wolfe singled to score Smith and Maggie McVey (Blue Springs).

Robinson improved to 13-4 on the season after scattering two hits in the complete game effort. With her 12 strikeouts in the game, she is third in single-season strikeouts (121) and second in career strikeouts (265).

Game 2: No. 20 Indians 18, Trojans 3 (5 innings)

Chloe McClain (Fulton) went 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, six RBI, and two runs scored in the Indians' 18-3 win in 5 innings.

The Indians jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the top of the first inning. Lexi Brown (Morton) tripled to drive Julia Shaw (Hernando). Tayler Bishop (Ecru) added a two run single and McClain plated three runs with a double before the Trojans could get out of the inning.

Wolfe and Bishop had back-to-back RBI singles, McClain drove in two runs on a double, Beckley and Shaw drew back-to-back bases-loaded walks, and Brown drove in the final run of the inning on a ground out to first to give the Indians a 13-0 lead in the second.

ICC scored three to go up 16-1 in the third. McVey scored on an error before Shaw added a single to score McClain and Bryanna Clemons (Eudora).

McClain added a RBI single in the fourth and Emma Rose Thompson (Hatley) plated Clemons on a sac fly in the fifth.

Hallie Turner (Southaven) gave up three runs, one earned, on three hits and nine walks while striking out three to move to 6-2 on the season.

UP NEXT: The Indians are scheduled to travel to Hinds on Friday with the first pitch scheduled for 5 p.m.
