No. 17 Indians get road sweep over Southwest

Summit, Miss. – No. 17 Itawamba Community College softball picked up a big conference road sweep over Southwest Mississippi Community College Saturday winning game one, 5-1 and run[ruling the Bears 10-0 in game two.

Game 1: Indians 5, Bears 1

The Indians (21-10, 8-6 MACCC) picked up the 5-1 game one win behind a strong pitching performance from Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) and two good offensive frames.

Robinson went the distance and held the Bears to five hits and one run while striking out nine to improve to 10-4 this season.

The Indians plated three runs in the third and added two insurance runs in the seventh.

Emma Rose Thompson (Hatley) tripled to drive in two of the Indians' runs, and Haylee Alberson (Hernando) went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Sammie Day-Jones (Ragland, Ala.) and Julia Shaw (Hernando) picked up one RBI each in the win.

Game 2: Indians 10, Bears 0 (5-innings)

The Indians scored early and often in game two jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the second and then scoring seven runs in the third.

Eighth Indians picked up at least one RBI in the game and the duo of Riley Tyree (Trussville, Ala.) and Bailey Ware (Batesville) finished with two RBI each.

The Indians had two extra base hits as Julia Shaw (Hernando) and Tyree both both doubled in the game.

Hallie Turner (Southaven) held the Bears to only three hits in the game and struck out six in five innings of work to improve to 4-2 this season.

After the doubleheader at Jackson State Community College was cancelled, the Indians are scheduled to host Copiah-Lincoln Community College Friday at 1 p.m. weather permitting.
