No. 17 Indians fall to No. 15 Northeast

Fulton, Miss. – No. 17 Itawamba Community College softball dropped a conference doubleheader to No. 15 Northeast Mississippi Community College Saturday, falling 2-1 in game one and 6-3 in game two.

Game 1: Tigers 2, Indians 1

Game one featured two of the best pitchers in the conference going head-to-head in Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) and Northeast's Cassidy Duskin.

Every run of the game crossed the plate in the second inning of the pitcher's duel.

The Tigers scored first as they plated two runs on a double in the top half of the second inning.

Emma Rose Thompson (Hatley) answered with a run scoring single [video] in the bottom of the frame to score the Indians (19-10, 6-6 MACCC) lone run of the contest.

The Indians picked up hits in the sixth and seventh but a base running miscue and and a ground ball ended the threats.

Robinson shut down the Tigers in the final five innings and finished with eight strikeouts [video], but suffered the tough luck loss as Duskin kept the Indians off the board as well.

Game 2: Tigers 6, Indians 3

The Indians took an early 1-0 lead on a RBI single [video] by Julia Shaw (Hernando) in the opening frame, but back-to-back solo home runs in the second gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead.

In the top of the third, the Tigers took advantage of two ICC errors to extend their lead to 4-1.

Shaw struck again in the fifth with a two-run scoring double [video] to cut the Tiger's lead to 4-3, but the Tiger answered with a run in both the sixth and seventh to stretch the lead to 6-3.

The Indians drew a pair of two outs walks in the bottom of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but a ground ball after a Tiger pitching change ended the threat and the game.

Saturday, the Indians will travel to Summit for a conference doubleheader with Southwest Mississippi Community College beginning at 1 p.m.
