No. 15 Indians sweep Coahoma

Clarksdale, Miss. – No. 15 Itawamba Community College softball got their second straight sweep of a conference opponent Tuesday by defeating Coahoma Community College, 15-2 in game one and 8-2 in game two.

Game 1: Indians 15, Tigers 2 (5-innings)

After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Indians (19-6, 6-2 MACCC) rattled off 14 hits and 15 unanswered runs to pick up the 15-2 game one run-rule victory.

Lexi Brown (Morton) and Emma Rose Thompson (Hatley) led the offensive charge driving in three runs each and both going 2-for-2 with a home run.

Sammie Day-Jones (Ragland, Ala.) went 2-for-3 and picked up two RBI and four other Indians drove in one run each.

Haylee Alberson (Hernando) picked up the win throwing three innings without giving up a hit and strikeout out four.
 
Game 2: Indians 8, Tigers 2

Just like game one, the Indians fell behind in the first inning with Coahoma taking a 1-0 lead, but a five-run second inning put the Tribe in front for good.

Allie Beckley (Pontotoc) drove in three runs to led the Indians and Chloe McClain (Fulton) went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Tayler Bishop (Ecru), Avery Wolfe (Hernando) and Tamiya Martin (Nettleton) added an RBI each as well.

Alberson threw a complete game and struck out 10 in game two to improve 3-0 this season.

The Indians will hit the road Saturday for a conference and Top 20 doubleheader against No. 12 Pearl River Community College. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
