Booneville, Miss. – Itawamba Community College softball completed the sweep of its opponents in the Mississippi/Illinois Challenge at Northeast with a 16-3 run-rule win over Kaskaskia College Friday.
The Indians (10-3) scored early and often and led 5-2 at the end of the first inning highlighted by a Riley Tyree (Trussville, Ala.) three-run double.
After scoring two in the second and one in the third, the Indians scored eight runs in the bottom of the fourth.
A pair of bases loaded walks, a run scoring on a wild pitch and a two-run error gave the Indians a 13-3 lead.
Jessi Smith (Senatobia) drove in two runs on a hard hit line drive off the top of the center field wall, followed by a Rayne Rippee (Sardis) RBI single to give the Indians the 16-3 advantage.
Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) retired Kaskaskia in order in the top of the fifth to secure the win and improve to 6-1 this season.
The Indians will travel to Muscle Shoals, Ala. Tuesday for a doubleheader with Northwest Shoals Community College starting at 2 p.m.
