Indians win big over Frontier

Booneville, Miss. – In the first game of the Mississippi/Illinois Challenge at Northeast, Itawamba Community College softball picked up a big 20-5 run-rule victory over Frontier Community College.

The Indians (9-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first on RBI doubles by Riley Tyree (Trussville, Ala.) and Rayne Rippee (Sardis), but the Bobcats were able to tie the contest in the third.

Julia Shaw (Hernando) and Sarah Kate Thompson (Myrtle) put the Indians back in front. 4-2, with run-scoring doubles in the fourth, and Tyree extended it to 7-3 with a three-run home run in the top of the fifth.

The Indians plated four more runs in the fifth on a mix of errors and wild pitches to take an 11-3 advantage.

A two-run home run by the Bobcats cut the lead to 11-5, but the Indians answered with a nine-run top of the sixth.

Bailey Ware (Batesville) drove in the first run on a single and the next three runs came in on bases loaded walks and a hit by pitch. Tyree, who went 3-for-4 with 6 RBI, stretched the lead out to 17-5 on a two-run scoring single. Rippee singled

To add another run, and the final two runs came across on a fielder's choice and a wild pitch.

The Indians kept the Bobcats off the board in the bottom half to secure the 20-5 run-rule win.

Shaw picked up the win to improve to 4-2 this season.
