Indians split at Calhoun

Decatur, Ala. – Itawamba Community College softball earned a split with Calhoun Community College in its first road doubleheader of the season, winning game one 5-2 and dropping game two, 10-7.

Game 1: Indians 5, Warhawks 2

The Indians (8-3) fell behind early giving up a run in the bottom of the first and trailed until they tied the contest in the top of the fifth and scored four runs over the final two innings to pick up the win.

Sammie Day-Jones (Ragland, Ala.), Rayne Rippee (Sardis), Bailey Ware (Batesville), Hallie Turner (Southaven) and Sarah Kate Thompson (Myrtle) all drove in the runs for the Indians and Haylee Alberson (Hernando) was a perfect 3-for-3 in the game.

Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) picked up her fifth win of the season by throwing a complete game and allowing only two runs on five hits while striking out six.

Game 2: Warhawks 10, Indians 7

The second game of the day saw a lot more offense with the team combining for 17 runs on 22 hits. However, the Warhawks struck first and took a big 8-1 lead after four innings.

In the fifth, the Indians would answer with four runs and then cut the lead to one, 8-7, after scoring two runs in the top of the sixth.

In the bottom of the sixth, the Warhawks would plate two runs, and were able to hold the three run advantage and pick up the win and earn the split.

Hanna Grace Gillean (Mantachie) went 3-for-4 with three RBI and Jessi Smith (Senatobia) went 2-for-4 with one RBI.

The Indians will travel to Booneville Friday, Feb. 24 to face Frontier Community College at Noon, and Kaskaskia College at 2 p.m.
