Indians' rally comes up short in loss to Marion Military

FULTON, Miss. – Marion Military (8-3) used a big second inning and held off a late-game rally by the Indians (6-1) to pick up a 7-4 win on Friday.

Jessi Smith (Senatobia) doubled and her runner, Maggie McVey (Blue Springs), scored on a single by Rayne Rippee (Sardis) to make it a 7-4 contest with one out in the bottom of the seventh. Riley Tyree (Trussville, Ala.) singled to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Tigers got a strikeout and groundout to put a stop the Indians' rally.

Tyree added a solo home run to start the bottom of the second and drove in Sammie Day-Jones (Ragland, Ala.) and Smith in the fifth.

Julia Shaw (Hernando) was the pitcher of record after give up six runs, one earned, on two hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 1.2 innings. Haylee Alberson (Hernando) entered to give up one earned run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in 5.1 innings.

The Indians had eight hits in the loss – snapping their five-game double-digit hit streak. Tyree was 3-for-4 with a home run, a pair of singles and three RBI. Smith went 2-for-3 with a double, hit by pitch and a run scored.
