No. 6 Indians hold on to defeat East Central in MACCC Tournament opener

Ellisville, Miss. - No. 6 ICC started the Mississippi Association of community Colleges Conference (MACCC) Tournament Wednesday with a 6-5 win over East Central.

The Indians (38-7) jumped out to an early lead on a RBI single by Connor Stevens (Amory) in the second inning and the a three-run home run by Kara Hays (Mooreville) in the third extended the lead to 4-0.

McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) added a run in the fourth with a triple off the top of the right field wall and later scored as Hays reached on an error.

The Indians held a 6-0 lead after four innings, but a two-run home run in the top of the fifth pulled the Warriors closer and sparked a comeback attempt.

In the fifth, the Warriors plated three additional runs to cut the Indians' lead to 6-5. 

Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) retired the Warriors in order in the seventh to secure the win and her tenth save this season, and Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) picked up the win to improve to 16-1.

The Indians will face No. 5 Copiah-Lincoln Community College Thursday at 4 p.m. in a winner's bracket game. The game will be available on jcjc.tv.
