No. 7 Indians sweeps Meridian to close out regular season

FULTON, Miss. – The Indians closed the final regular season of Coach Andy Kirk's career with a sweep of Meridian with a pair of run-rule victories.

Game 1: No. 7 Indians 8, Meridian 0 (6 innings)

McKenzie Patterson went 3-for-3 with RBI and a double in the Indians' 8-0 run-rule game one win over Meridian.

The Indians put the game on ice with a three-run fifth inning. Hannah Henry started the inning off with a double and would score when Patterson reached on an infield single and smartly advanced to second when nobody was covering the base. Patterson scored on a single by Kara Hays, who would score on a ground out by Rayne Rippee.

Connor Stevens smashed a two-run home run into the wind in the fourth inning.

Hays went 2-for-4 with three RBI, a double and a stolen base. Hays, Henry, Boatner and Caroline Clark each had a pair of hits in the win.

Madison Jenkins improved to 15-1 on the season. She walked three and struck out another in five hitless and scoreless innings of action.

The game was the 500th of Coach Kirk's career at ICC.

Game 2: No. 7 Indians 8, Meridian 0 (5 innings)

ICC plated a pair of runs in first three innings of the game before completing the sweep of the Eagles with an 8-0 run-rule victory in the night cap.

Henry led the Indians with two hits and two RBI. Stevens, Boatner, and Haylee Alberson each had a double in the win.

Stevens doubled in the home half of the fifth and scored the game-winning run on a single by Allyson Harrison.

Ka'Mya Hampton moved to 15-3 on the year after scattering two hits and a walk while striking out five in four scoreless innings of work.

The Indians will wait for the outcome of other games in the league to determine their spot in next week's conference tournament at Jones.
