No. 9 Indians sweep Gulf Coast

Perkinston, Miss. – No. 9 Itawamba Community College went on the road and swept Mississippi Gulf Coast in a conference doubleheader, winning game one 8-4 and taking game two 2-0.

Game 1: Indians 8, Bulldogs 4

The Indians (33-7, 17-7 MACCC) scored five runs over the final two innings to pick up the 8-4 hard-fought win in to start the day.

An early 3-0 lead for the Indians was cut to one by the Bulldogs in the third and then tied in the fifth. However, the Indians scored two runs in the top of the sixth to take a 5-3 advantage.

The Bulldogs answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth, but a three run seventh propelled the Indians to the win.

Connor Stevens (Amory) led the Indians going 3-for-4 with an RBI and Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) and Hannah Henry (Brandon) picked up two RBI each.

Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) picked up the win throwing two and third innings and striking out one.

Game 2: Indians 2, Bulldogs 0

McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) drove in two runs on a solo home run and a double that proved to be enough for the Indians and they picked up a 2-0 win in the nightcap.

Patterson' solo home run in the first gave the Indians the early lead and added the final run in the third.

The two run lead was more than enough for Ka'Mya Hampton (Pinson, Ala.) as she threw a complete game one-hitter while striking out five.

Next up for the Indians is their final road test of the year when they travel to Holmes Tuesday. First pitch of the conference doubleheader is scheduled for 2 p.m.
