No. 9 Indians sweep Jackson State in run-rule fashion

FULTON, Miss – The No. 9 Indians got back to their winning ways with a pair of non-conference wins in five innings over Jackson State (Tenn.) Community College on Tuesday.

Game 1: No. 9 Indians 8, Jackson State 0 (5 innings)

Madison Jenkins and Ka'Mya Hampton tossed a combined one-hitter in the Indians' 8-0 win in the opening game of the afternoon.

Jenkins improved to 13-1 on the season after giving up one hit and striking out six in 3.1 innings of work. Hampton closed the door on the game by striking out three and walking two in 1.2 innings of non-save action.

Kara Hays got the Indians on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run single that scored Hannah Henry and McKenzie Patterson.

The Indians added on five more runs in the home half of the third. Patterson walked to start the inning and would eventually score on a pass ball. Hays was hit by a pitch and scored on a single by Caroline Clark. Haylee Alberson walked and stole second before scoring on a wild pitch. Tayler Bishop entered to run for Clark and scored on a single by Rayne Rippee, who would later score on a two out double by Kaitie Boatner.

Game 2: No. 9 Indians 8, Jackson State 0 (5 innings)

Alberson blasted her eighth home run of the season to give the Indians a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.

The Indians would pull ahead, 7-0, with a five-run the third inning. Henry singled to start the inning and scored on a triple to center by Patterson. Alberson would drive in Patterson for her third RBI of the game on a single. Hays would walk and score on a pass ball. Alberson would score on a throwing error after Connor Stevens drew a walk. Stevens would advance on the same throwing error and eventually score on a single by Jenkins.

Alberson would start the fifth with a single and advance to third on a double by Rippee before scoring the game-securing run on a wild pitch.

Emily Robinson (2-0) picked up the win after giving up two hits while striking out four and issuing no walks in four innings of work. Allyson Harrison would close things down with a pair of strike outs and two walk in one inning.

ICC will be back in action Wednesday as they step back into division play to host Coahoma Community College for their annual Breast Cancer Awareness Series.
