No. 7 Indians fall to No. 9 Pearl River

Fulton, Miss. – In a National Top 10 battle, the No. 7 ranked Indians fell to No. 9 Pearl River in a pair of pitcher's duels, falling 4-2 in game one, and 2-0 in game two.

Game 1: Wildcats 4, Indians 2

With two of the best pitchers in the conference, ICC's Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) and Pearl River Brinson Anne Rogers, going head-to-head, the Indians (27-7, 13-7 MACCC) and Wildcats were scoreless through the first three innings.

In the top of the fourth, the Wildcats scored the game first run on a RBI single, but the Indians answered in the bottom of the frame with two runs of their own.

A sacrifice fly by Caroline Clark (Tuscumbia, Ala.) tied the contest at 1-1, and Kara Hays (Mooreville) scored the go ahead run as she scored from third when a throw from the catcher went into the outfield during a steal attempt of second by Haylee Alberson (Hernando).

The Wildcats tied the game at two in the top of the fifth on a passed ball and extended their lead to 4-2 in the sixth on back-to-back RBI singles.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Indians put the tying run on base but were unable to get the timely hit to force extras, giving the Wildcats the 4-2 win.

Game 2: Wildcats 2, Indians 0

The Indians held the Wildcats to only two hits in the nightcap, but one of the hits was a two-run home run that was the difference in the game.

Hannah Henry (Brandon) had two of the Indians' four hits in game two and Jenkins (Cleveland) reached base all three times she came to the plate, drawing three walks. However, the Indians were unable to plate a run as the Wildcats were able to hold on and pick up the sweep.

The Indians will step out of conference play Tuesday when they host Jackson State Community College for a doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m.
