Booneville, Miss. – No. 7 ICC went on the road and picked up a conference sweep over the rival Northeast Tigers Tuesday.
Game 1: Indians 4, Tigers 1
The Indians (27-5, 13-5 MACCC) were able to take advantage of two Northeast errors and drive in two additional runs to pick up the 4-1 game one win.
In the top of the first, Haylee Alberson (Hernando) reached on an error that allowed McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) to score, but Northeast would answer with a run in the bottom of the frame to tie the game at 1-1.
The Indians regained the lead in the top of the fourth as an error allowed Kara Hays (Mooreville) to score, Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) followed with a RBI single to extend the lead to 3-1.
Rayne Rippee (Sardis) tripled in the top of the seventh and Tayler Bishop (Ecru), who came in as a pinch runner, scored on a Hannah Henry (Brandon) single to add another insurance run.
Jenkins and Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) combined to hold the Tigers scoreless for the final six innings to secure the win. Jenkins improved to 12-0 this season and Robinson picked up her eighth save.
Game 2: Indians 7, Tigers 3
The Indians jumped out to another 1-0 lead in the first inning as Hays singled to score Henry.
In the third inning, Henry singled to extend the Indians' lead to 2-0.
Hailie Moody (Haleyville, Ala.) extended the Indians lead in the fourth with a bases loaded triple, and Henry bunted to score Kaitie Boatner (Guntown) and stretch the lead to 6-0.
The Tigers would score two runs in the bottom of the fifth and had scoring chances late in the game, but the Indians were able to hold them to only one run in the final two innings while adding an insurance run in the top of the seventh to pick up the 7-3 win and the sweep.
Ka'Mya Hampton (Pinson, Ala.) picked up the win in the circle and improves to 12-2 this season.
Next up for the Indians is a top 10 showdown with No. 9 Pearl River Friday in Fulton. First pitch is scheduled for Noon and the game will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
