No. 4 Indians defeat Delta for third conference sweep

Fulton, Miss. – Less than 24 hours after sweep Hinds, the Indians picked up their third conference sweep on Monday defeating Mississippi Delta 1-0 in game one and 12-1 in game two.

Game 1: Indians 1, Trojans 0

Game one was a defensive battle with the teams combing for six hits and the games' lone run coming in the first inning.

Rayne Rippee (Sardis) singled in the bottom of the second and Connor Stevens (Amory) scored after an obstruction call on the play at the plate.

Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) kept the Trojans off the board for six innings to improve to 8-0 this season and Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) threw a scoreless seventh inning to pick up her fifth save of the season.

Game 2: Indians 12, Trojans 1 (5-innings)

Despite game one lacking offense, there was an abundance of it in game two with the Indians scoring 12 runs on 10 hits on their way to the win and sweep.

Eight on the Indians' 12 runs came in the bottom of the second after scoring one run in the opening frame on a Trojan error.

A bases loaded walk and a run scoring on fielder's choice, Kara Hays (Mooreville) singled to score a run and Caroline Clark (Tuscumbia, Ala.) doubled to clear the bases and drive in three runs and give ICC a 7-0 lead.

Haylee Alberson (Hernando) followed with a double of her own to score Clark and Rippee capped off the inning with a run scoring single and ICC lead 9-0.

Hays singled home a run in the bottom of the third to extend the lead to 10-0, and Maggie McVey (Blue Springs) hit a run scoring singled followed by a bases loaded walk by Allyson Harrison (Mantee) rounded out the Indians scoring in the fourth.

The Trojans plated a run in the top of the fifth, but the Indians were able to pick up the 12-1 run-rule victory.

Ka'Mya Hampton (Pinson, Ala.) picked up the win and improves to 9-1 this season.

The Indians (20-2, 6-2 MACCC) will travel to Decatur Saturday for a conference doubleheader with East Central starting at 1 p.m.
