No. 1 Indians fall to No. 5 Jones

Ellisville, Miss. – In the MACCC opener, No. 1 ranked Itawamba Community College and No. 5 Jones squared off in two tight battles that have become what is expected when they meet.

The Indians (12-2) came up just short in both games with Jones picked up a 1-0 win in game one and a 6-2 victory in game two.

Game 1: Bobcats 1, Indians 0

The game was scoreless for six innings as Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) and Jones' Nia Luckett went head-to-head in the circle.

Jenkins allowed only four hits and struck out five in her six innings of work, while Luckett threw a complete game and held the Indians to three hits.

In the top of the fifth, the Indians scored the games' first run, but back-to-back interference calls by the umpire negated the run and kept the game scoreless.

Jones would get the walk-off win in the bottom of the seventh on a bases loaded walk.

Game 2: Bobcats 6, Indians 2

The Indians fell behind 2-0 early in game two as Jones took advantage of two ICC errors and had two timely hits, but the Indians would quickly tie the contest.

Jenkins doubled to score the Indians first run of the game and Haylee Alberson (Hernando) followed with a double to tie the game at 2-2 in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fourth, Jones with score a run on a RBI single and then hit a three-run home run to extend the lead to 6-2.

The Indians will look to bounce back from the sweep when they travel to Snead State Sunday for a non-conference doubleheader.
