No. 2 Indians sweep Lansing on Sophomore Day

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 2 Indians used a combination of strong pitching and timely hitting to pick up a sweep of Lansing (MI) Community College on Sophomore Day.

Game 1: No. 2 Indians 11, Lansing 0 (5 innings)

The Indians (12-0) exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pick up the run-rule victory in the first game of the afternoon.

Hailie Moody (Haleyville, Ala.) scored Tayler Bishop (Ecru) with a bases-loaded single. Hannah Henry (Brandon) followed the third-straight single in the inning to score Bailey Ware (Batesville). McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) drove in Connor Stevens (Amory) and Kaitie Boatner (Guntown) with a single through the six hole.

Kara Hays (Mooreville) and Caroline Clark (Tuscumbia, Ala.) followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases for the second time with no outs in the inning. Haylee Alberson (Hernando) delivered a sac fly to deep left field to plate Henry. Jenkins followed a second sac fly to deep left that scored Patterson. The Indians scored the final two runs of the inning on a two-run double from Stevens.

ICC picked up a pair of runs in the second when Stevens sliced a double to the gap in right to score Alberson and Jenkins.

Stevens went 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI.

Jenkins improved to 5-0 on the year after tossing four scoreless innings with six strikeouts and two hits.

Game 2: No. 2 Indians 4, Lansing 0

Ka'Mya Hampton (Pinson, Ala.) continues to have an impressive start to her sophomore season.

Hampton scattered three hits and one walk while striking out five in four scoreless innings of work – extending her scoreless streak to 29-straight innings.

The Indians jumped out to a 3-0 after the first inning. Hays grounded out to the shortstop to score Henry. Clark doubled to plate Patterson and Jenkins knifed a single through the gap to push across Clark before the Stars could get out of the inning.

Henry scored on an error to give the Indians an insurance run in the fifth.

Hays went 2-for-3 with a triple and RBI. Patterson added a pair of singles to highlight the Indians' seven-hit performance.

Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) entered in the sixth inning and picked up her second save of the season after giving up three hits and striking out the final two batters of the game.

ICC is scheduled to host Jackson State (Tenn.) on Tuesday.
