No. 5 Indians sweep Marion Military on the road

MARION, Ala. – The No. 5 Indians picked up a pair of hard-fought road wins over Marion Military on Saturday.

Game 1: No. 5 Indians 13, Tigers 7 (8 innings)

Marion Military (7-3) rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh to force the first game into extra innings. The Indians (4-0) answered with six runs in the top of the eighth and held the Tigers scoreless in the bottom half of the inning to open the day with a 13-7 win.

McKenzie Patterson (Corinth), Hannah Henry (Brandon) and Kara Hays (Mooreville) each had three hits in the win. Patterson, Hays, and Caroline Clark (Tuscumbia, Ala.) had a double while Rayne Rippee (Sardis) added a triple to the Indians' 16-hit performance.  

Haylee Alberson (Hernando) picked up her first win of the season after giving up one hit and two walks while striking out two in 1.1 innings of work.

Game 2: No. 5 Indians 7, Tigers 3

The Indians used a four-run fourth and a two-run seventh to complete the sweep of the Tigers with a 7-3 win in the final game of the day.

Henry and Kays continued to swing a hot bat for the Indians. Both sophomores, along with Clark and Madison Jenkins (Cleveland), led the way with a pair of hits in the win. Henry and Rippee each had a double while Clark and Hays both drove in a pair of runs.

Ka'Mya Hampton (Pinson, Ala.) improved to 2-0 on the season after scattering four hits and striking out five batters in seven innings.

The Indians will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Shelton State (Ala.)
