No. 2 Indians defeat Hinds in first round of MACCC Tournament

Fulton, Miss. – The MACCC Tournament host picked up a 6-1 win over Hinds Wednesday to advance to the winner's bracket of the double elimination tournament.

It didn't take the Indians (34-5) long to pick up the lead as they pieced together three runs in the bottom of the first.

McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) and Katie Rutledge (Manchester, Tenn.) started the frame with infield singles and later scored on a pair of ground outs.

Brianna Posey (Florence, Ala.) capped off the three run frame with a line drive home run to right center field.

The Indians would hold their 3-0 lead until the fifth, when they extended their advantage to 6-0. Kaitie Boatner (Guntown) and Patterson scored on Hinds' errors, and Posey, who went 3-for-3, singled in the Indians' final run of the game.

Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) shut down the Eagles for six innings, but allowed one run in the seventh. However, Jenkins went the distance and struck out nine while allowing only five hits.

The Indians will face No. 9 Co-Lin in the second round of the MACCC Tournament Thursday at 7:30 p.m. Co-Lin will be the home team in the contest as all games after the opening day are determined by a coin flip. The game will be available on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
