No. 2 Indians sweep Meridian, win regular season title

Meridian, Miss. – The No. 2 Indians swept Meridian in a pair of run-rule victories to win the conference regular season title Tuesday.

Game 1: Indians 18, Meridian 5 (5-innings)

The Indians (33-5, 25-3 MACCC) jumped out to an early lead on a run-scoring triple by Kara Hays (Mooreville) and a two run home run for Ivy Watts (Tupelo) in the first inning.

After Meridian plated one run in the bottom of the inning and a scoreless second, the Indians exploded for 10 runs in the third that was started by a leadoff home run by McKenzie Patterson (Corinth).

Seven Indians drove in runs in the big third inning and a two run home run by Connor Stevens (Amory) in the next inning, followed by a run-scoring single by Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) gave the Indians the 18-5 advantage.

The Indians help the Eagles scoreless in the fifth to pick up the victory.

Game 2: Indians 10, Meridian 2 (5-innings)
 
Hannah Henry (Brandon) and Watts gave the Indians an early 2-0 lead with a pair of RBI singles in the opening frame. In the second, Katie Rutledge (Manchester, Tenn.) drove in a run with an infield single to give the Indians a 3-0 lead.

The Indians plated three runs on an error and a fielder's choice to start their scoring in the third. Hays and Watts then picked up two RBI each to complete the seven-run inning.

Meridian was able to plate two runs over the next three innings, but the Indians picked up the 10-2 win in five innings.

The sweep earned the Indians the MACCC Regular Season Championship and ICC will host the conference tournament May 5-8 in Fulton.
