No. 2 Indians sweep Northwest

Fulton, Miss. – In their final home doubleheader of the regular season the No .2 Indians picked up a sweep of Northwest, winning game one 4-1 and taking game two 8-1.

Game 1: Indians 4, Rangers 1

A pair of two-run home runs blasts led the Indians to the 4-1 game one victory.

Ivy Watts (Tupelo) drove in the first runs of the game with her two-run home run to left in the first inning.

Brianna Posey (Florence, Ala.) extend the lead to 4-0 in the fourth with her no-doubter of a home run to left.

Northwest plated a run in the top of the fifth on a passed ball, but the Indians were able to keep the Rangers at bay to pick up the win. Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) earned her NJCAA leading ninth save this season. Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) picked up the win to improve to 12-1 this season.

Game 2: Indians 8, Rangers 1

The Indians jumped out to an early lead scoring five runs over the first two innings, on their way to the 8-1 victory.

Hannah Henry (Brandon) and Watts started the scoring in the opening frame with a pair of RBI singles.

Connor Stevens (Amory) scored on a throwing error in the second inning, followed by a McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) RBI single and Watts driving in Patterson on a sacrifice fly.

After Northwest plated a run in the fourth, Robinson pushed the Indians lead back out to five, 6-1, with a run scoring single in the fifth.

To round out the scoring, Posey singled to drive in two runs in the sixth and Robinson secured the victory with a three up, three down frame in the seventh.

The Indians will wrap up the regular season on the road Tuesday when they travel to Meridian for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m.
