No. 2 Indians split with Pearl River

Poplarville, Miss. – Wrapping up a three series road swing, the No. 2 Indians split with Pearl River Sunday, dropping game one 6-4 and winning game two 10-2.

Game 1: Wildcats 6, Indians 4

The Indians fell behind early and had their comeback come up just short as they dropped a 6-4 decision in game one Sunday.

Pearl River led 5-0 after three innings and held that lead until the fifth when the Indians rallied to pull within one.

A two run scoring double by Ivy Watts (Tupelo) and an Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) RBI single put three runs on the board for the Indians and Connor Stevens (Amory) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.

In the sixth, the Wildcats picked up an insurance run and were able to hold the Indians scoreless the remainder of the contest to pick up the victory.

Game 2: Indians 10, Wildcats 2

The Indians didn't waste any time scoring their first run of game two as they scored three runs in the opening frame, four in the second and one in the third to take an 8-0 lead.

Pearl River would answer with two runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to 8-2. The Indians held the 8-2 lead until they plated two additional runs in the seventh to extend their lead to the eventual final score of 10-2.

Brianna Posey (Florence, Ala.) led the offensive charge for the Indians going 3-for-3 with five RBI. Watts added two doubles and an RBI in the game and McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) picked up her fourth home run this season. Katie Rutledge (Manchester, Tenn.) had a two-hit game that included a double and an RBI.

Madison Burrus (Hernando) picked up the win to improve to 8-3 this season.

The Indians return to the friendly confides of the ICC Softball Complex Wednesday when they take host Holmes for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. It will be the Indians' annual Breast Cancer Awareness Series and the series is scheduled to be broadcast on LetsGoICCTV.com/red.
