No. 3 Indians sweep No. 17 Southwest

Summit, Miss. – The No. 3 Indians picked up another sweep of a ranked opponent Thursday as they swept No. 17 Southwest.

Game 1: Indians 6, Bears 0

The opening game of the doubleheader got off to quick start with the Indians scoring the game's first run when McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) scored on a sacrifice fly from Ivy Watts (Tupelo) in the top of the first.

However, that would be the game's only run but for most of the contest. The next runs came in the top of the seventh when the Indians scored five runs highlighted by a 2-run home run from Watts.

The one run in the first inning would have been enough for Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) though as she threw a complete game and allowed only four hits while striking out six to earn her ninth victory of the season.

Game 2: Indians 13, Bears 2

The Indians found their bats in game two as they exploded for 13 runs on 13 hits.

Brianna Posey (Florence, Ala.) and Patterson led the offensive charge with both going 2-for-4 and picking up 3 RBI each.

Katie Rutledge (Manchester, Tenn.), Connor Stevens (Amory) and Kara Hays (Mooreville) added two hits each and combined for five RBI.

In the circle, Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) picked up her sixth win as she threw three and two third's innings in relief and struck out six while allowing only four hits.

Next up for the Indians is another road test Tuesday at Coahoma. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. in Clarksdale.
