No. 3 Indians sweep No. 16 Northeast

FULTON, Miss. – The No. 3 ICC softball team swept rival No. 16 Northeast Mississippi Community College in a conference doubleheader in Fulton on Wednesday.

Game 1: No. 3 ICC 5, No. 16 Northeast 3 [HIGHLIGHTS]

The Indians (20-4, 12-2 MACCC) fell behind 3-1 after three solo home runs in the first two innings of play by the Tigers (15-13, 8-8 MACCC). ICC rallied with three runs in the bottom of the fourth to take a 4-3 advantage.

Brianna Posey (Florence, Ala.) reached on a one-out single to right and advance to second when Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) followed with another single to right. Posey scored when Hannah Henry (Brandon) reached on an error. Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) reached on a fielder's choice that scored Jenkins before Henry scored on a double steal to give the Indians the 4-3 lead before the Tigers could get out of the inning.

McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) singled to shallow left and stole second base before advancing to third on a perfectly executed sacrifice bunt by Kara Hays (Mooreville). Posey ripped her second single of the game to plate Patterson to tack on an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth.

Robinson improved to 5-0 on the season after taking the circle in the fourth inning to relieve starter Madison Burrus (Hernando). Robinson struck out 8 of 15 batters faced and scattered 2 hits in 4 scoreless innings of work.

Game 2: No. 3 ICC 7, No. 16 Northeast 2 [HIGHLIGHTS]

ICC took advantage of Northeast errors in the first, third, and fourth innings to take a 3-1 lead before recording a hit in the nightcap.

Connor Stevens (Amory) provided the Indians with their first hit of the game in a big way when she roped a three-run home run to left to put ICC up 6-1 after four innings of play. Not to be out done, Jenkins smashed a home run to left in the bottom of the fifth to take a 7-1 advantage.

The Tigers manufactured a run in the top of the seventh but Ka'Mya Hampton (Pinson, Ala.) closed the door on the rally to help the Indians complete the sweep.

Jenkins (9-0) picked up the win after giving up 1 run on 3 hits and 3 walks while striking out 3 in 6 innings of work.

ICC was originally scheduled to travel to Southwest Mississippi Community College on Friday, but the game was moved to Thursday, April 1 due to weather concerns.
