No. 7 Indians sweep East Central

Fulton, Miss. – The No. 7 Indians wrapped up a busy Spring Break by picking up their third straight sweep of the week by defeating East Central 6-2, 3-1.

Game 1: Indians 6, Warriors 2

The Indians (16-4, 8-2 MACCC) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first three innings and were leading 5-1 heading into the sixth.

 Madison Jenkins (Cleveland) smashed a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth to score Indians final run of the game, and despite the Warriors plating a run in the seventh, the Indians came away with the win.

Hannah Henry (Brandon) led the offensive charge for the Indians going 3-for-4 and McKenzie Patterson (Corinth) also picked up multiple hits, going 2-for-4.

Madison Burrus (Hernando) picked up the win and threw her first complete game this season allowing only two this and one earned run while striking out four.

Game 2: Indians 3, Warriors 1

Game two was a low scoring affair with both teams having to fight for every hit and run.

The Indians manufactured their first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Ivy Watts (Tupelo). Henry drew a bases loaded walk in the third to score the Tribe' second run of the game and Kara Hays (Mooreville) drove in their third and final run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly.

East Central plated a run in the top of the seventh, but Emily Robinson (Springville, Ala.) was able to close out the game to pick up the save and preserve the victory for the Indians. Jenkins was awarded the win and along with Robinson, the dup help the Warriors to only four hits in the contest.

The Indians will host Co-Lin Saturday for a conference doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
