Indians close out regular season with split at Southwest

SUMMITT, Miss. – The Indians closed out the regular season with a split at Southwest Mississippi on Sunday.

Indians 11, Bears 3

The Indians exploded for nine runs in the second inning to pick up an 11-3 five inning win in the first game against the Bears.

Macey Cox (Troy, Tenn.) and Hope Harbin (Columbus) both went 2-for-3 in the win. Cox had a RBI and a run scored while Harbin added a pair of RBI and two runs scored. Kacey Carpenter (Grenada) had a two-run single and Summer Cryder (Tupelo) had three RBI on a pair of sacrifice flies.

Olivia Burns (Greanda) picked up her 20th win of the season after giving up two earned runs on three hits and two walks while striking out one in four innings of work.

Bears 6, Indians 2

For the second-straight doubleheader, the breaks beat the girls in Game 2.

The Indians had eight hits in a 6-2 loss, but failed to come up with timely hits with runners in scoring position throughout the contest.

Rachel Sternisha (Olive Branch) had a pair of hits while Samantha Conley (Mandeville, La.) had the lone RBI of the game. Harbin, Cryder, and Lilli Moore (Fulton) each had a stolen base.

The Indians will face Southwest again on Wednesday in the opening round of the conference tournament hosted by Jones College.
