Burns, Meine earn NJCAA All-American honors

FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College softball players Olivia Burns and Mattie Meine were named Second Team All-American's by the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Monday afternoon.

Burns, a Delta State University signee, had a record setting career and sophomore season becoming the program's single season wins record holder with 27, and the all-time wins record at 46. The Grenada native also holds the career record for strikeouts with 273. She finished her sophomore season with a 1.81 ERA and a 27-5 record.

Meine had a standout freshman season as the shortstop from Olive Branch led the Indians in batting average (.419), slugging percentage (.585), hits (75), runs (63), triples (7) and stolen bases (51).

The duo picked up numerous postseason honors as both were named All-Americans and All-Region by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA), and earned First Team All-State honors from the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC).

Burns was also named an All-American by Fastpitch News and was MACJC Pitcher of the Year.

The Indians finished the season with 40-16-1 record, an MACJC Championship and a berth in the NJCAA National Tournament.
