FULTON, Miss. – Itawamba Community College's standout softball player Olivia Burns signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at Delta State University next season.
"It's an honor to be able to continue my career at Delta State," said Burns. "I can't wait to get there and show everybody what I can do."
The Grenada native rewrote ICC softball's history books during her two years in Fulton as a dominate force in the circle for coach Andy Kirk.
"Olivia did a great job for us," Kirk said. "She's been a leader on and off the field, and we're excited for her and the future that she has."
In her career, Burns broke and set the all-time wins record (46), strikeouts (273), ERA (1.74) and single season wins with 27. She finished her sophomore campaign as one of the best in the nation with a 27-6 record (fourth in the nation), a 1.81 ERA (twelfth in the nation) and struck out 168 batters (tenth in the nation).
Burns' standout season earned her National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Region and Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) All-State First Team honors, as well as, MACJC Pitcher of the Year.
"ICC has made a huge impact in my life," said Burns. "The coaches and players here (ICC) have been great to me and got me to where I am today."
Burns helped the Indians to a 40-16-1 record, an MACJC Championship and the program's first-ever NJCAA National Tournament appearance. She will join the Lady Statesmen, who finished 22-25 and made a Gulf South Conference Tournament appearance last season.
